About Guto

I'm passionate about making a positive difference to people and communities across North Wales. Originally from Anglesey and now living in Penmaenmawr, I've spent much of my career working in public affairs, communications and stakeholder engagement, helping organisations navigate challenges and deliver meaningful change. Alongside my professional career, I'm incredibly proud to serve as Chair of Trustees at Conwy Mind, a charity doing vital work to support people's mental health and wellbeing across our communities. Mental health is a cause very close to my heart, shaped by my own lived experiences and a strong belief that everyone deserves access to support, compassion and understanding when they need it most. Being Chair is both a privilege and a responsibility. I'm fortunate to work alongside a dedicated team of trustees, staff and volunteers who make a real difference every day.

Proudest achievements

  • What I'm most proud of isn't something I've achieved personally. It's the incredible work of the charity I'm privileged to chair, Conwy Mind.
  • Every day, our dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters make a genuine difference to people's lives across Conwy. Whether it's providing counselling, supporting young people, helping someone struggling with loneliness or simply being there when somebody needs someone to listen, their work is nothing short of inspiring.
  • Having experienced my own mental health challenges, I know just how important that support can be. It's why the work of Conwy Mind means so much to me personally.
  • I'm immensely proud of the compassion, dedication and determination of everyone involved in the charity, often working quietly behind the scenes, changing lives without ever seeking recognition.
  • If this nomination achieves anything, I hope it shines a light on their extraordinary work and encourages more people to learn about, support and champion Conwy Mind.

About Conwy Mind

I’m incredibly proud to serve as Chair of Trustees at Conwy Mind, a local mental health charity dedicated to ensuring that nobody in our community has to face mental health challenges alone. Conwy Mind provides vital mental health and wellbeing support to people, helping individuals build resilience, improve their wellbeing and access the support they need, when they need it. What makes Conwy Mind special is its deeply rooted connection to the communities it serves. All the staff understand that mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, and that the right support, delivered with compassion, understanding and without judgement, can make a life-changing difference.

The journey

In 2024, I experienced a particularly difficult period in my life which resulted in me receiving mental health care. It was an experience that changed my perspective on so many things Recovery wasn’t an overnight process. It took time, determination, support from others and a willingness to rebuild. That experience also gave me a renewed sense of purpose. When the opportunity arose to become a board members initially, it felt like an opportunity to turn something incredibly difficult into something positive. To use both my professional experience and my personal journey to help an organisation that supports people facing some of life’s toughest moments. Being Chair has been a privilege and a responsibility. It means working alongside an extraordinary group of people who are committed to making mental health support more accessible, compassionate and responsive to the needs of our communities. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, both personally and professionally. But I’m even prouder that my experiences can now play a small part in helping others.
